Émile DECOEUR (1876-1953) - France

A tireless potter, a discoverer of technical solutions, a reviver of forgotten recipes, Émile DECOEUR has left an extraordinary work of a superb quality. The floral decor, influenced by Art Nouveau, will get more and more simple until around 1915, become delicate friezes, simple lines or fine dots from 1927 and eventually blend the decoration with the shape to reach the main goal : the achievement of pure ceramic material. He made his first chinawares shortly before 1910. He took part many times in the Parisian Salons and between 1939 and 1942 he was an artistic counsellor at the Manufacture of Sèvres.
